Tesla Wall Connector installation cost
The cost of installing a Tesla Wall Connector depends on your property, the charger location and the electrical work required. Elecology completes a free desktop survey to provide a tailored, fixed-price installation quote.
What affects the installation price?
- Cable length and route: The distance from your electricity supply to the charger and how the cable will be installed.

Everyday charging with the Tesla Wall Connector
Plug in when you get home and choose when to charge using the Tesla app. The attached 7.3m cable is ready to use, so there’s no need to unpack a separate charging cable each time.
How fast will my car charge?
The Tesla Wall Connector can deliver up to 7.4kW on a single-phase supply or 22kW on a suitable three-phase supply. Your actual charging speed depends on your car’s onboard AC charger and your electrical installation.
For example, a car with an 11kW onboard AC charger will charge at a maximum of 11kW, even when connected to a Wall Connector capable of supplying 22kW.
Can I charge when electricity is cheaper?
Yes. You can set charging schedules in the Tesla app to match your electricity tariff’s off-peak hours. Plug in when convenient and schedule charging for your cheaper period.
If your energy supplier manages charging automatically, follow its setup instructions to avoid conflicting schedules in your car or charger.
Does it work with smart EV tariffs?
Compatibility depends on your energy supplier, tariff and vehicle. Some smart tariffs connect directly to an eligible car to manage charging, rather than controlling the Wall Connector itself.
Check your supplier’s current compatibility list for your exact vehicle and charging setup before choosing a tariff.
Manage charging in the Tesla app
Use the Tesla app to view your Wall Connector’s charging status, charging history and energy usage, and manage its charging schedule.
If you drive a Tesla, you can manage your vehicle and Wall Connector from the same app.
Plan for Wi-Fi at your charger
Wi-Fi enables connected app features, software updates and remote diagnostics. If the signal is weak near your proposed charger location, let us know during your free desktop survey so we can discuss the setup.
Tesla Wall Connector with solar panels and home batteries
If your home has solar panels or battery storage, the way your charger is connected and controlled matters. We’ll discuss your existing equipment and how you want to charge during your free desktop survey.
Can I charge using solar power?
Solar electricity generated at home can contribute towards charging your car. However, using available solar power is different from automatically charging only when there is surplus solar generation.
Installing a Tesla Wall Connector alone does not provide surplus-only solar charging for every vehicle and solar setup.
What is Tesla Charge on Solar?
Tesla’s Charge on Solar feature allows an eligible Tesla vehicle to use surplus solar energy through a compatible Tesla home energy setup.
It requires an eligible Tesla vehicle, Powerwall with solar and the required software. Having a Wall Connector and solar panels alone is not enough to enable this feature.
Will charging use my home battery?
It can. Depending on the electrical connection and system settings, your home battery may supply energy to the car while it charges.
Tell us if you want to preserve stored energy for your home. We’ll discuss the proposed charger connection, and your battery installer may need to confirm the settings or changes required.
Can it balance charging with my home’s demand?
Dynamic home load balancing can adjust the charger’s output as electricity use elsewhere in your home changes, helping keep demand within the configured supply limit.
For the Tesla Wall Connector, this requires a compatible, separately installed Tesla-approved power meter. It is not included as standard. Setting a fixed charging limit is different from dynamic load balancing.
Tell us about your solar and battery setup
Include the make and model of your inverter and battery, along with photos of the equipment and its electrical connections, in your desktop survey. Let us know whether your priority is cheaper overnight charging, using solar energy or preserving your battery for household use.

Tesla Wall Connector installation FAQs
Find answers to common questions about vehicle compatibility, preparing for installation and using your Tesla Wall Connector at home.
-
Yes. The Tesla Wall Connector works with virtually all modern EVs in the UK, including Tesla and other brands. Its attached cable connects to a Type 2 charging port.
-
Check the distance from your proposed charger position to your car’s charging port, allowing for how you normally park and the route around the vehicle. The cable should reach comfortably without stretching or creating a trip hazard.
Send us photos of your parking space and preferred charger location. We’ll help assess the position during your free desktop survey.
-
Yes. The Tesla Wall Connector is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation. It can be mounted on a suitable garage wall or an external wall beside your parking space.
If there isn’t a suitable wall nearby, we can assess an alternative mounting arrangement as part of your tailored quote.
-
Yes. Elecology can install a Wall Connector you already own. We’ll complete a free desktop survey of your property and provide a tailored, fixed-price installation quote.
-
Yes. You can arrange your installation before taking delivery of your electric car. Tell us which vehicle you’re expecting so we can plan the charger position around its charging port and your parking space.
Your engineer can complete the electrical testing without your car being present.
-
We can assess replacing an existing charger with a Tesla Wall Connector. Whether the existing supply cable and protective equipment can be reused depends on their condition, rating and suitability for the new installation.
Include photos of your current charger, its electrical supply and any available installation paperwork in your desktop survey.
-
It may be possible, depending on your parking arrangements, electricity supply and permission to carry out the work.
You may need approval from your landlord, freeholder or managing agent. Tell us if the proposed cable route crosses communal areas or land outside your ownership so we can assess the requirements before quoting.
-
This depends on the agreed cable route. Cables may be clipped to an external wall or installed in surface trunking where needed.
We’ll discuss the proposed route during your survey and describe it in your quote. If the appearance is particularly important in an area, send us clear photos so we can assess the options.
-
Once correctly commissioned, basic charging can normally continue without an internet connection. Connected app features, software updates and remote diagnostics may be unavailable until the connection is restored.
If your energy supplier controls charging remotely, an internet outage may also affect that service.
-
Eligibility depends on Octopus’s current compatibility requirements. An eligible vehicle can allow Octopus to manage charging through the car rather than through the Wall Connector.
Owning a Tesla Wall Connector alone does not guarantee eligibility. Check your exact vehicle and setup with Octopus before choosing the tariff.
-
Use the scheduling approach recommended by your energy supplier. If the supplier manages charging automatically, a separate schedule in your car or charger could prevent it from charging when instructed.
For a simple off-peak tariff, set a schedule that matches your cheaper hours and check that other charging settings do not conflict.
-
No. App registration and connectivity are separate from the electrical design of your installation. Adding your Wall Connector to the app does not, by itself, stop your Powerwall supplying energy to the car or provide charging during a power cut.
Tell us how you want your battery and charger to work together. Your Powerwall installer may need to confirm the system configuration.
-
The Wall Connector has access-control settings, including options to allow all vehicles, Tesla vehicles or specified authorised Tesla vehicles.
The authorised-vehicle list is a Tesla-specific feature. It does not provide the same individual vehicle restriction for other car brands.
-
Yes, subject to an assessment of your electrical supply and installation requirements. Tell us about both vehicles, where they park and whether you expect to charge them at the same time.
We’ll assess the available capacity and discuss a suitable charging and load-management arrangement.
-
Keep your electricity supply, consumer unit, agreed cable route and charger location accessible. Move your car or stored items if they would obstruct the work.
Have your phone, Tesla account and Wi-Fi details available for setup. You can enter your own passwords during the handover. If you supplied the charger, keep its packaging and Quick Start Guide available too.
-
Check your vehicle’s charge limit, charging schedules and the Wall Connector’s access settings. Note any message in the app or status lights on the charger.
Contact Elecology for advice about your installation. If a charger fault is suspected, Tesla may be able to diagnose it remotely and advise on the next steps.
